The Downtown Trail Connection Project will identify and study alternatives for connecting the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail to the Ship Creek Trail in downtown Anchorage. This project aims to complete the most high-profile missing link identified in the Anchorage Areawide Trails Plan, 1997. The project will also address access to property owned by the Alaska Railroad Corporation (ARRC) which owns a majority of the property in the area. This project will follow the Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) process and develop a Design Study Memorandum to identify potential connection alignments between the Coastal and Ship Creek Trails. Potential connections along existing roadways, such as Christensen Drive, 1st Avenue, and 2nd Avenue, will also be reviewed. Future work will further evaluate specific connection alternatives and provide final recommendations for design.

The Municipality of Anchorage has contracted with CRW Engineering Group, LLC and Solstice Alaska Consulting, Inc. to facilitate public and stakeholder input into the alternatives development process. As the project team seeks input on this project, please share your thoughts, ideas and comments by attending the open house meeting or sending written comments!
